The Indian Coast Guard Act 1978, elucidates preservation and protection of marine environment and prevent and control marine pollution asits charter.  In pursuance of statutory duties and being designated as the Central Coordinating Authority (CCA), Indian Coast Guard formulated the National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOSDCP) delineating the functional responsibilities of different national organisations, departments and other response agencies for dealing with the marine oil spill within Maritime Zones of India.
